General Scholarships  (Revised 4- 9 -10)

Guidelines for Scholarship Eligibility:

Families with one child and a household income of $60,000 or less qualify to apply for a scholarship.  An income
allowance of $10,000 is allowed for each additional child and dependent member of the household.

*Recipients must be a resident of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
*Recipients must attend a school within the Commonwealth

One of the ways we receive money for the scholarship fund is through the Earned Income Tax Credit program
developed by the state of Pennsylvania.  Businesses in PA that pay certain taxes are allowed to redirect their
tax dollars to EITC Scholarship Funds, and can receive up to a 90% tax credit.  Including the federal charitable
deduction, the cost to the business will range between 0 - 10%.  In one example, a business in PA can
contribute $10,000 to a scholarship fund at a cost of only $450!  Businesses can pay their taxes and help their
community at the same time by allowing children to attend the school of their choice; and local families that
prefer Christian education for their children, but cannot afford it, can now have that option!

Our goal is to fund each family in need that desires to attend Mt. Carmel Christian School.  We have
determined the following guidelines for funding.  Please understand that these guidelines do not promise that
you will receive scholarship money.  We can only distribute what we have in our fund!  We could really use your
help.  One of the ways you can help us to have enough scholarship dollars is to find local business owners that
would rather their tax dollars go to local families for educational needs.  If you go to our
EITC Giving page, you
can learn more about how this program works.  And you can help us to help you!

How to apply:

Go to www.csfofpa.org.  This is the website of the Children’s Scholarship Fund of Pennsylvania.  They will be
handling our scholarship process for us, and the application is very, very simple.  Click on the link that says
“Apply for Scholarship” toward the upper right hand corner.  You will find directions for applying, either online
or by mail, and how to send in your supporting information and a $25 check.   The deadline is September 30,
2010.  Please do not bring scholarship applications to the school, but mail them directly to CSF.

Because the EITC program has deadlines that are so late in the calendar year, you will not know the amount of
your award until the month of December.  We know this can be stressful information for you.  You can make
monthly payments from August through December based on the tuition that would be due if you were to
receive the scholarship.  If we are not able to meet our goal for the scholarship fund, we will award each family
to the level that we are funded.  In other words, if our fund is 80% funded, you will receive 80% of your
expected award.  In January we will reassess your payment (after any scholarship awards) for the remaining
five months for your new payment amount so that you can be paid in full by the end of the school year.

If we are able to find enough businesses that want to help families in this way, we could potentially have money
to roll over from this year so that our scholarships can be awarded earlier in the year.  We are doing our very
best for you, please let us know if you know of any business owners that might be interested in this opportunity.
Families may use the Scrip Program to lower their tuition costs.
This is an easy way to provide a self-scholarship by using gift cards
to buy items that you normally purchase anyway.  Families are
earning hundreds and even thousands of dollars toward their
tuition!  For more information on the Scrip program,
